When choosing my photographer, I decided to go with Lee Friedlander because he focused on a variety of different things that I can recreate. His idea of capturing society on a day to day basis seemed like an interesting idea that I could apply to modern day. The things I enjoyed most in his work was his interest in the general life of people and how he captured those images. None of his images are composed exactly the same, they all have similar ideas, but all captured in an interesting way.

I specifically chose this image to recreate because it is a very casual picture, which I thought was neat. Lee Friedlander focused on self portraits a lot, but none of them were fancy or seemed like they needed a lot of thought. I also enjoyed how the person wasn't centered in the composition, so I took that idea into account.

To recreate this image, I used the idea of a self portrait in a mirror and the off center person. Although, I didn't incorporate the bordering of the mirror the idea is still there because of the reflection. Then I positioned myself off center to capture that same idea. I decided to make this image more modern by having the new household items in the back. On the other hand, I changed the image by appearing more formal and changing my body language.
